You know that commercial from a few months back... not even sure WHAT it was advertising... either Starbucks or an energy drink or something... but this one guy starts his morning, and takes a sip, and everywhere he goes there are people cheering him on and chanting his name like he's at a sporting event, and then the mascot does the "worm" across the floor?
That's what I see in my head. (da da da DA da... CHEL!)
I've got my cheerleaders; I've got my external motivation. Now it's time to bring that power to the inside.
I stopped off at the local 24-hour fitness last night on my way home, wanting to scope out the place. As I was being shown around, the guy asked me what I was interested in. I named off a BUNCH of things, saying that I get bored easily. Then he asked me if I switched up my routine every two weeks or so. I told him "No... that's about the time I STOP working out altogether." Not exactly what he meant by "switching it up," I'm sure. He asked why I stopped... I told him that that's about time I got bored. Boredom seemed to be a recurring theme... (time to remedy that!)
I was proud of myself, though, because I didn't make a snap decision right there on the spot. My intent in stopping off at the gym last night was not to sign up, but merely to have a look around. get myself acquainted and make sure that this was a place I could see myself coming to on a regular basis. And then think about it.
I stopped off at Target right after that, and again, had to restrain myself. I almost walked out of there with a Wii Fit Plus. But again, I surprised myself with my (not-too-common) restraint, and decided to hold off on that purchase for the moment.
And now that I have had time to think things thru and talk it over with my husband, I feel like I am making a good choice. A strong decision, not just an impetuous one.
Tonight on my drive home, I am stopping off at the gym to become a new member. Woo-hoo!
Good luck. Only you can make yourself go but having a gym buddy always helps. I found one here and we used to hit the gym 5 days a week until I got hurt. we never wanted to leave the other hanging. there are online tools that can help you track your gym hours and my most helpful tool was a heart monitor. you can leave it on all day to see how much you burn in a 24 hours from work outs to just the everyday stuff.
ReplyDeleteagain good luck. and keep blogging!
Woot Woot! I can't wait to hear about your journey!
